Jet Suit Paramedics – future, fantasy or just a bit of a joke?
Jet Suit Paramedics; the exploration of the use of jet suits to allow rapid access to remote patients in the Lake District.
In peak periods there are 15 – 20 traumatic/medical cases in the fells per week. Only a small percentage of these require immediate HEMS launch. The rest are managed by MRT/North West Ambulance/SAR. Is there a role for a ‘rapid response’ paramedic with the capability of accessing these patients in less time to deliver either those initial critical interventions or be able to offer paramedic care to lower acuity injuries prior to MRT arrival. Finally, early assessment of these patients may also identify alternative resource requirements than were apparent at the time of call.
